Chapter OneI wake up stretching and yawning and turn to look over at my clock. It's only six. I know that I'm up too early, but I can't sleep either. I hear muffled sobs through my thin bedroom wall. My eyes narrow as I climb out of bed.
"Why does she have to do this?" I whisper to myself, but I know why mom's crying.
This day last year, my brother was taken in for some tests. The same tests I'll be doing today, but he didn't come back out. Something went wrong with the machines and he was electrocuted. I didn't take it very hard, since I had to stay strong and basically take over mom's job and take care of myself.
"Mom?" I ask opening the door to her bedroom. Her dark black hair is a mess, and her yellowing pillow case is stained with tears.
"I'm alright Echo, go back to sleep."
"Mom, why can't you just tell me what's wrong?"
"Go back to sleep!” she yells. I slam her door and walk out of our small two bedroom house. It is all situated on one floor. River
A 9/11 Short StoryI clocked into work at 6:30AM, 'Its going to be a long day!' I thought to myself. I took the elevator to the twenty-fourth floor. The office area was old; damaged or broken computers, frayed carpets, the tiles were yellowing. It always smelled like old coffee. Even the coffee we drank tasted old. I turned on my computer and read the date like I did every morning, Tuesday, September 11th 2001. At 7:00AM, my boss Bob Whiteman, walked into my "office" and told me my lunch break would be at 11:00AM and that would be my last break before I go on maturnity leave.
My phone on my desk constantly rang so, I finally picked up and answered. It was my boyfriend on the other line. Before I hung up, I told him that I'd see him at 11:00AM for lunch. Then after our conversation, I went back to work. Just as I finished a document, my phone beeped, "Judy, Mr. Whiteman would like to see you in his office!" I groaned and looked at the time. It was only 8:50AM. I knocked on the door
Commission - EuphoriaStatementAmund stood on his front porch. He wanted to take a good look of the outside world before he was trapped in that cafe for a few hours. He didn't mean to steal that wallet. He was looking for money to pay off his rent. He looked at the I.D in the wallet one last time, Bruce. Why he never wanted to know the last name, is unknown.
Amund took his beaten up skateboard and threw it at the sidewalk. The air smelled of rain. He didn't want it to rain before he left! He looked far down the street where he could see the cars driving down the busy city roads. He looked at his watch 6:30, "Well, there is no better time to meet Bruce than now!" He had looked up Bruce on facebook and added him telling him that he found Bruce's wallet. He asked Bruce to meet him at the cafe at 7:00. He knew he would be there half an hour early, but it didn't seem to matter.
He played his whole night in his head as he rode down the sidewalk on his skateboard. He had a weird conversation with Bruce;
Her MatchWhen you look at her, a smile forms on her lips
The way your eyes search her face
You hug her tight, rest your hands on her hips
She feels like you two are the only ones in this place
You pull her in and kiss her
She doesn't pull away, she's happy you did it
Her stomach beings an emotional stir
She likes you a little more than she will admit
NephewWhen you're in my arms
I know you're safe with me
I'll protect you from the harms
And you'll never have to see
All of those alarms
That shows when strangers flee
And you're heart it always warns
That you are always free
My heart is which yous warms
So my nephew you'll always be
